Bodyweight Fitness Challenge

Starbucks Foundation & Giant Food Presents:

The Montgomery County Student Athlete For Life Bodyweight Fitness Challenge After School Program

For over a year, our youth  here in Montgomery County have had to struggle to learn outside the classroom. Lockdowns and quarantines were making it hard for them to stay active, control their weight and eat healthy. When virtual learning became the “law of the land”, many  county youth  were no longer participating in sports or even taking short walks in the park. And for some of our youth, particularly those who reside in low income neighborhoods, this dilemma suddenly puts them into a lifestyle that can be quite detrimental to their health long term.

Helping County Youth and Families Back to Healthy Living

To combat this community health crisis, SAFEO
has partnered with The Starbucks Foundation, Giant Food, the Montgomery County Collaboration Council For Children Youth and Families and the Montgomery County Recreation Department  by launching the “Student Athlete For Life” Bodyweight Fitness Challenge After School Program.

From August-September the program will offer low-income county youth an experience that will lead them back on track to family health, fitness and happiness.

Our fitness trainers will introduce participating youth to Bodyweight Strength Training dedicated to developing their muscular strength, endurance, confidence and overall wellness. We’ll counterbalance the fitness component of the program, where participating youth will learn that the key to fitness is  “good nutrition”  by engaging in nutrition education sessions with official nutritionist, Giant Food’s Leslie Jefferson, MS, CNS, LDN.

The beauty of our program is: no equipment is required and thus, youth from low income families are able to participate without financial challenges.. Parents will also join in on the fun by participating in our weekly “Family Fitness Fun Days”. Register Today!
